After the injury

Why see a chiropractor after a work injury

Many work injuries start small: a twinge while lifting, a sore shoulder after a long shift, wrist pain that gets worse every week. Left untreated, these problems can turn into chronic pain and more time off work.

A chiropractic examination soon after the injury helps find the cause of your pain, start treatment early and document the injury for your workers' compensation claim.

Common work injuries

  • Back strain from lifting or twisting
  • Neck and shoulder pain from repetitive work
  • Slip, trip and fall injuries
  • Carpal tunnel and other wrist or hand injuries
  • Pinched nerves and sciatica
  • Pain from long hours of sitting, standing or driving

If you have severe pain, numbness, a head injury or other emergency symptoms, go to the emergency room or call 911 first.

What to do after a work injury

  1. Get emergency care first if you need it.
  2. Tell your supervisor about the injury as soon as possible.
  3. Ask your employer for Form 801 and fill it out.
  4. See a doctor or chiropractor and say the injury happened at work.
  5. Keep copies of all forms, bills and notes about your injury.

Paying for care

Workers' compensation in Oregon

Most Oregon employers must carry workers' compensation insurance. When your claim is accepted, your employer's insurer pays for reasonable and necessary medical care for the work injury, including chiropractic care. You can also receive time-loss benefits if your injury keeps you from working.

In Oregon, a chiropractic physician can be your attending physician for a limited period set by state law. Our team tracks these limits and coordinates with your other doctors and your insurer so your care continues without gaps.

If your injury happened while driving for work, PIP from the vehicle's auto policy may also apply. Not sure what covers you? Call us and we will help you check.

FAQ

Work injury chiropractor: frequently asked questions

Can I see a chiropractor for a work injury in Oregon?

Yes. In Oregon, chiropractic care is covered under workers' compensation for an accepted claim. A chiropractic physician can also act as your attending physician for a limited period set by state law.

Does workers' compensation pay for chiropractic care?

When your claim is accepted, your employer's workers' compensation insurer pays for reasonable and necessary medical care related to the work injury, including chiropractic care.

What should I do right after a work injury?

Get emergency care if you need it, tell your supervisor as soon as possible, ask for Form 801 and see a doctor or chiropractor. Write down when, where and how the injury happened.

How long do I have to report a work injury in Oregon?

Oregon law generally requires you to notify your employer within 90 days of the injury. Report it as soon as possible, because delays can make your claim harder.

Do I need a referral to see a work injury chiropractor?

No. You can call us or book online directly. During the first visit, the chiropractor examines you and, if needed, refers you for an X-ray or MRI.

What work injuries do you treat?

Common work injuries include back and neck strain, shoulder injuries, sciatica, pinched nerves, carpal tunnel, elbow and knee injuries and pain from slips and falls. If your injury needs another specialist, we refer you.

What if I was hurt while driving for work?

Your injury may be covered by workers' compensation, by PIP from the vehicle's auto policy, or both. Call us and we will help you understand which coverage applies.

Where are your work injury clinics?

We have four clinics in Oregon: Portland (10915 SE Stark St), Keizer (3785 River Rd N), Sherwood (16771 SW 12th St Ste E) and Hillsboro (329 SE 3rd Ave).
