How Much Does a Chiropractor Cost After a Car Accident in Oregon?
Note: prices mentioned in this article are general estimates for chiropractic care in Oregon, not ProCare Chiropractic Center prices. Most of our patients are treated after car accidents or work injuries, and their care is billed to PIP, workers' compensation or other insurance. See the insurance we accept or call (503) 206-6078.
Short answer: In most Oregon car accident cases, you pay little or nothing up front for chiropractic care, because Personal Injury Protection (PIP) in your auto policy pays at least $15,000 per person in medical expenses, regardless of fault. Without insurance, a chiropractic visit in Oregon usually costs about $50 to $100, and a first exam about $60 to $150, plus X-rays if you need them.

After a crash, most people ask two questions: do I need a chiropractor, and how much will it cost? In Oregon, the answer to the second question depends less on the clinic’s prices and more on which insurance pays. This guide explains typical prices, what PIP covers and when you may have to pay yourself.
What Chiropractic Care Costs Without Insurance
If you pay out of pocket, typical prices in the Portland area are:
- First visit with exam: about $60 to $150. X-rays or an MRI referral cost extra.
- Chiropractic adjustment visit: about $50 to $100 per visit.
- Therapy added to a visit (massage, electrical stimulation, rehabilitation exercises): about $50 to $100 per service.
A car accident treatment plan usually includes several visits over weeks, so the total depends on your injuries and how quickly you recover. See our guide to chiropractic cost without insurance in Portland for more detail.
Why Most Car Accident Patients Pay Little or Nothing Up Front
Oregon law requires every private passenger auto policy to include Personal Injury Protection (ORS 742.520). PIP is no-fault coverage, so it pays your medical bills whether or not you caused the accident.
- Minimum medical benefit: $15,000 per person (ORS 742.524). Many policies have higher limits.
- Time limit: expenses incurred within two years of the accident.
- Who is covered: you, family members in your household, passengers in the insured car and pedestrians hit by it, subject to the law’s conditions.
- Chiropractic care is included when it is reasonable and necessary for your injuries.
At ProCare, our team bills PIP directly and sends your records to the insurer. Read more in Oregon PIP Insurance Explained.
When You May Pay Out of Pocket
- Your PIP limit runs out. Other coverage may then apply: the at-fault driver’s liability insurance, your uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage, or your health insurance.
- You were not in an insured vehicle and no auto policy applies to you.
- You wait too long. Expenses after the two-year PIP window are not covered, and a long delay before your first visit can make it harder to link your injuries to the accident.
If you have a personal injury attorney, treatment can also be arranged under a letter of protection (LOP), where the clinic is paid from your settlement. See Insurance We Accept.
What Affects the Total Cost of Your Care
- Type and severity of injury, such as whiplash, back pain, sciatica or a pinched nerve.
- Number of visits in your treatment plan.
- Additional services: imaging, physical therapy, rehabilitation exercises and massage.
- How soon you start care. Early treatment often means a shorter plan.

Yes. Oregon PIP covers reasonable and necessary medical expenses after a car accident, including chiropractic care, up to at least $15,000 per person for expenses incurred within two years.
Do I need health insurance to see a chiropractor after a car accident?
No. PIP comes from the auto policy, so you can use it even if you have no health insurance.

A standard adjustment visit usually costs about $50 to $100, and the first visit with an exam about $60 to $150, plus imaging if needed.
